A pigtail is about as simple as fiber gets: a short length of cable with a connector on one end and a bare, unterminated end on the other. You splice the bare end into your run and the connector end plugs into a panel or closure. They sound trivial, but using the wrong connector type or fiber mode at a patch panel quietly costs you a rework.
